Uche Sparks Dominant Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their maiden European adventure, Crystal Palace are adapting very quickly. Missing key players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a comfortable win that all but guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
Another victory in their next fixture against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the knockout stages, particularly following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Moment
This match provided a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second game in succession.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their league season were no match even for a largely second-string Palace lineup. The visitors were further weakened by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg injuries.
Dominance Established from the Start
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton came close soon after, fizzing a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official dismissed the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's shot had struck the post.
The home side were clinging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for a couple of agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, only to see his shot blocked.
The youngster was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also blazed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
A solitary worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise positive night for the visiting side.
