The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
