The Game UN:Me: A Cerebral Thriller Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a young woman containing multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct souls, each with unique anxieties and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie hospital, while other scenes depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned church.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What makes you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that appear minor to others can trigger something primal within us. This game explores that concept — fears that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul emerges at any given time. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, every persona's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting natural beauty with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the physical form is rightfully them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
