The Danish government Establishes Special Watch System to Track Trump After Greenland Row

Taking action inspired by TV series watches, Denmark's foreign ministry has created a nighttime monitoring team—far from to fend off fantasy threats, but to monitor Donald Trump as Copenhagen is asleep.

The night watch begins at 5pm in Denmark each day and concludes with a summary produced at 7 a.m., which is then distributed across the Danish government and relevant offices detailing statements made and developments taking place.

This position is believed to have been introduced following the diplomatic row involving Denmark and the US regarding Greenland earlier this year, when the American leader threatened taking control of the resource-rich island.

Observers note that this measure is one of multiple instances of how Denmark's foreign policy and its government administration have had to adapt to the new reality of the second Trump administration.

A source close to the ministry remarked, “It's accurate to say that the circumstances in the region and the time zone gap between Denmark and the US were a significant reason introducing this arrangement during the earlier months.”

Instead of everybody needing to promptly reach for their phones to catch up on updates from the US, the ministry explained it had made a collective effort to stay updated on Trump activities.

An expert, a ex- chief analyst at the Danish defence intelligence agency, stated that this move showed, “as long understood,” that the idea of the United States as Denmark's primary ally was dead. “Partnerships are founded on common values and a mutual view of threats,” he added. “The president shares neither of those with Denmark and I would argue he lacks it with the majority of Europe.”
