President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the executive mansion.

He noted that he conversed with her family and they were “devastated”.

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.

Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.

Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.

Presidential Invitation

The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told the press. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Community Response

Mourners assembled over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to the Soldier

“She was the individual that educators hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of her previous school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always eager to help others.”

Memorial plans for Sarah are still being arranged.

Judicial Measures and Government Adjustments

Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.

The event prompted the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and cease issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.

Status of the Airman

Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.

He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.

Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she also intended to meet with the family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with excellence, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
