Los Angeles Battles Unprecedented Heat Only Days Following Severe Winter Storm.
Following a week of significant rainfall that led to inundation across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now confronting abnormally high temperatures for late February.
All-Time High Temperatures
During the day Friday, the temperature soared to 91°F (33°C) in central LA, as reported by weather officials. This breaks the previous daily record for this date, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was recorded in 2025.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were highlighted on forecast graphics for the region.
Safety Alerts
Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their advice included:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave children or pets unattended in a parked vehicle.
A Sharp Shift
This sudden spike in heat follows closely after a intense winter storm that battered the area earlier in the week. That storm delivered heavy snow, strong winds, and thunderstorms to higher elevations, leading to flash flood warnings for countless residents.
Sadly, the severe weather also caused a large avalanche in the Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.
Temperatures Easing
Forecasters predict some relief will arrive. Readings were forecast to drop to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in the city by overnight.
Additional areas that experienced ninety degrees featured Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were forecast to experience the high eighties.
In the coming days, downtown Los Angeles can expect weather in the eighties, with cooler weather likely for the start of March.
