Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.
Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.
“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”
It remained unclear when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”
NYPD shared video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse just had a baby.
“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.
He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while healing from his surgery.
“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”
Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with New York in March.
