Fury Erupts as Former President Trump's Social Media Remarks on Rob Reiner Spurs Fierce Rebuke

Personalities from across the political divide and the Hollywood world are uniting to denounce former President Donald Trump for his remarks in the wake of the tragic passing of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Social Media Post

Following the discovery of the couple deceased at their Los Angeles residence, Trump posted on his platform to describe the deceased director as "tortured and suffering". In a post, he asserted Reiner's death was "due to the anger he provoked others through his enormous, relentless, and untreatable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "raging obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Police Update and Arrest

Police have since announced the detention of the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick, on charges related to murder in relation to the incident. It is reported his bail was established at a significant sum.

A Wave of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's post was swift and scathing.

“What a appalling and despicable comment,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a close acquaintance, also condemned the remarks. Goldberg pointed to previous rhetoric from Trump regarding political violence, asking, "Do you have no shame? Can you get any worse?"

California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly wrote, "He is a disturbed man."

Echoing this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just crossed a line. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they didn’t support him. Deeply disturbing."

Rebuke from His Own Political Ranks

A number of Republican elected officials also expressed dismay.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the event was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or political enemies". She also mentioned challenges with substance abuse and psychological well-being some families face.

Fellow Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's remarks "unacceptable and disgraceful" considering the nature of the deaths. He openly challenged others in his party to defend the comments.

The Director's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a outspoken critic of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the dangers of authoritarian rule if Trump return to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner said. "If we fall, there’s a danger that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Despite his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously shown "absolute horror" and condemned violence for political ends without reservation after the shooting of a different political figure.

An Ironic Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of past irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously recounted the story of the session, mentioning Trump's request for "special hairspray" while being photographed on a skyscraper overlooking Central Park.
