Former Physician Charged with Assault Allegations Involving 38 Patients
Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor stands accused of performing assaults against thirty-eight individuals who were under his care.
Details of the Serious Charges
Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with numerous acts of sexual assault – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
One deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
These allegations come after what police called a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant will appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.
Breakdown of Charges
The charging documents said the 45 sexual offences include:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- One count of attempted penetrative assault.
