Brian Eno Encourages Support to Propel Together for Palestine Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a cultural melody to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign hopes to send support to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's resilient spirit.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The track was produced after a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be done as a live recording, the performance was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the scene. All were part of the benefit event, which successfully generated a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of producers and composers. The song features a combination of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the campaign have stated that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These donations will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a spokesperson said. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was characterized as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of property said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions won't make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and showing the human dimension of the story.”
The song is launching at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
