Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Humiliation

Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for questions to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.

“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Conversations with The Board

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, Slot explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction

The manager highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase such as this with performances this poor.”

He stated, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
